Banco de Mexico

Mexican Libertad
The first gold Mexican Libertad was minted in 1981. The front of this gold coin depicts the goddess Victoria of the Mexican Independence Monument. The back of the coin holds the imprint of the Shield of Mexico. The coin’s design is derived from the Centenario gold coin but whereas the Centenario contains 37.5 grams of pure gold, the Mexican Libertad weighs in 31.1 grams or 1 Troy ounce which is traditionally the standard trading weight for gold.

Mexican Centenario
The Mexican Centenario gold coins were first produced in 1921 by Banco de Mexico in honor of the centenary of the Mexico’s independence. From then until 1947, approximately 8.5 million Mexican 50 pesos coins were minted . Between 1949 and 1972 an additional four million coins were minted dated with the year 1947. The Mexican Centenario gold coin has a beautiful image of a winged lady Liberty and the years 1821 and 1947 stated on the front of the coin. The national emblem of Mexico can be found on the back. The Mexican Centenario coin contains 37.5 grams of pure gold.
